Peru Judge Denies Request to Bar Ousted President from Leaving Country Amid Money Laundering Investigation

A Peruvian judge on Wednesday dismissed a prosecutor’s request to stop former President Dina Boluarte from leaving the country as she faces an ongoing money laundering investigation.

Boluarte, who was removed from office by Congress last week over accusations of “moral incapacity,” is now under scrutiny for alleged financial misconduct. The judge’s decision means she is free to travel abroad while the probe continues.

Her ousting marked another twist in Peru’s ongoing political turmoil, which has seen multiple leaders removed or investigated in recent years. Photo by Vice-Presidência da República, Wikimedia commons.
