Trump Considers Deploying US Troops to New Orleans to Address Crime

President Donald Trump suggested on Wednesday that his administration may deploy federal troops to Louisiana, specifically New Orleans, to tackle crime in the city.

Speaking at the White House during a meeting with Polish President Karol Nawrocki, Trump told reporters that officials are weighing whether to send troops to Chicago or “a place like New Orleans.”

“We’re going to be going to, maybe Louisiana, and you have New Orleans, which has a crime problem,” Trump said. “We’ll straighten that out in about two weeks.”

The president’s comments echo earlier moves by his administration to send federal forces into U.S. cities, a strategy that has sparked both support and sharp criticism. Photo by Michael Maples, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Wikimedia commons.
