Three Democratic lawmakers on the House Energy and Commerce Committee are expressing serious concerns about T-Mobile’s partnership in a new mobile service associated with the Trump
Organization, including a $499 smartphone branded as “Trump Mobile.”
Representatives Frank Pallone (the committee’s ranking member), Doris Matsui, and Yvette Clarke have sent a letter to T-Mobile CEO Mike Sievert, requesting detailed information about the company’s relationship with the Trump Organization.
In their letter, the lawmakers warned: “We are specifically concerned that T-Mobile’s business relationship with the Trump Organization — while Donald Trump is serving as President of the United States — presents a conflict of interest that will harm the American people.”
T-Mobile has not yet responded to the inquiry.
The Trump-branded mobile service is operated by Liberty Mobile Wireless, a Florida-based mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) founded in 2018 by entrepreneur Matthew Lopatin. MVNOs lease network infrastructure from major providers like T-Mobile and offer service under their own brand names.
The Democratic lawmakers said they are “highly skeptical” of the T-Mobile–Trump Organization collaboration and raised concerns about the legal, ethical, and policy implications of the arrangement—particularly its potential impact on U.S. spectrum policy. They requested a response to their questions by August 6.
The letter asks whether Sievert or any T-Mobile personnel had contact with Donald Trump, the White House, or the Trump Organization regarding Trump Mobile since January 20. The lawmakers are also seeking information about any direct agreements with the Trump Organization and financial terms related to such deals.
Donald Trump began his second presidential term on January 20.
Earlier this month, the Federal Communications Commission approved two network expansion deals for T-Mobile. These approvals came shortly after the company ended its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs under pressure from the Trump administration.
