U.S. President Donald Trump said Monday that recent diplomatic talks between Washington and Tehran have yielded “major points of agreement,” raising expectations of a potential
breakthrough in tensions between the two countries.
Speaking to reporters, Trump confirmed that discussions held on Sunday would continue into Monday, emphasizing that steady progress could lead to a deal in the near future. “If things keep moving in the right direction, we could have an agreement very soon,” he said.
According to the president, the talks were conducted by his Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, along with senior adviser and son-in-law Jared Kushner. While details of the negotiations remain limited, Trump’s comments suggest a shift toward de-escalation following weeks of heightened conflict.
Earlier, Trump revealed he had ordered a temporary delay on potential military strikes targeting Iranian power infrastructure. The five-day postponement came just hours before a deadline that had threatened to intensify hostilities, now entering their fourth week.
