3 Men Charged in $2M Armored Truck Heist Amid Philadelphia Crime Wave

Three Philadelphia men — including a former Brink’s employee — have been charged in connection with the theft of more than $2 million from a Brink’s armored truck, marking the first in a

string of armed robberies targeting armored vehicles in the region this summer, federal prosecutors announced on August 13.

The Accused

Daishaun “Daisha” Hughes-Murchison, 30

Brian Wallace, 31

Trayvine Jackson, 31

All face charges of robbery interfering with interstate commerce and using a firearm in furtherance of a violent crime, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Jackson remains in custody; Hughes-Murchison and Wallace have detention hearings later this week.

The June 21 Robbery

The heist occurred around 8 a.m. near a Home Depot in Philadelphia’s Port Richmond neighborhood. Court records state that two men armed with AR-style rifles confronted a Brink’s driver in a rear alley, forced him to the ground, and took his firearm and keys. While one suspect guarded the driver, the other entered the truck and stole a large amount of cash.

The suspects fled in a black Hyundai Sonata, with a third man following in a silver Ford Fusion. Investigators later linked the Fusion to Hughes-Murchison and learned the Sonata had been rented by Wallace, who returned it hours after the robbery. Surveillance footage showed Wallace leaving in Hughes-Murchison’s car. Cellphone records placed all three men at the scene. Investigators also discovered Jackson had worked for Brink’s until being terminated after an internal probe.

Other Armored Vehicle Incidents in the Area

The June 21 robbery was followed by at least three more armed incidents involving armored trucks:

June 26 – Two gunmen stole about $1,000 from a Loomis truck driver at an Aldi in Northeast Philadelphia’s Lawncrest neighborhood.

July 2 – Armed suspects attempted, but failed, to rob a Brink’s truck outside a Dollar General in Holmesburg due to the vehicle’s security locks.

July 15 – A Brink’s employee exchanged gunfire with two attempted robbers in Northeast Philadelphia; no injuries were reported.

Latest Heist Under Investigation

On August 12, two armed suspects robbed a Brink’s truck outside an H-Mart in Cheltenham Township, stealing between $700,000 and $800,000, according to police. The suspects, armed with an AR-15-style pistol and a handgun, also took the driver’s firearm before fleeing in a black Acura TLX later found in West Philadelphia. Authorities are investigating whether this case is connected to the other robberies. Photo by CapCase, Wikimedia commons.
