A man was arrested by the U.S. Secret Service on Sunday afternoon after scaling a gate at the U.S. Treasury building in Washington, D.C., according to an agency statement.
The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m., prompting a temporary shutdown of traffic in the area. The Metropolitan Police Department’s bomb squad was called to investigate a bag the man had left on the sidewalk outside the building. Officials confirmed the bag did not contain any explosives.
Located adjacent to the White House on Pennsylvania Avenue, the Treasury building was secured, and the Secret Service confirmed that no protectees were present at the White House during the incident.
